WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After four members of the Purdue women's track and field team earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last week, the Boilermakers picked up their fifth straight USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor on Thursday. The Purdue women have earned the award every year since its inception in 2007.
The Boilermakers were one of 164 NCAA Division I teams to earn All-Academic honors for the 2011 season by achieving a minimum cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Princeton led the way with a 3.68 GPA, followed by Iona and Santa Clara with 3.57 and 3.56 GPAs, respectively. The Boilermaker women had a 3.12. The Big East Conference led the nation with 12 schools earning academic team honors, followed by 11 in the Big 12, and eight apiece by the Big Ten and Ivy League.
Big 12 member Texas took home the USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year, while Oklahoma was named the outdoor team of the year. These institutions earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively.
