WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's track and field teams got their outdoor season home opener underway on Friday evening, completing the men's and women's hammer throws at Rankin Track. The Boilermakers posted a 1-2 effort on the women's side, while senior Bill Hardcastle finished third for the Purdue men.
Senior Stacey Wannemacher and freshman Dani Bunch paced the Purdue women, finishing first and second with a pair of outstanding marks. Wannemacher threw a season-best of 56.39 meters (185-00), while Bunch hurled a career best 52.28 meters (171-06). IPFW's Sara Branam broke up the Boilermaker run with a third-place effort of 49.94 meters (163-10), but junior Emily Leckenby gave Purdue three of the top-four with a mark of 49.03 meters (160-10). Freshman Liberty Slinden and junior Terri Anderson tossed personal records as well as Slinden threw 44.78 meters (146-11) to finish eighth, while Anderson marked 42.13 meters (138-03).
Hardcastle was the Boilermakers' top finisher on the men's side, throwing a new personal record of 55.34 meters (181-07) to take third place. Indianapolis's Matt Royer took home top honors on the day, tossing 58.40 meters (191-07), while Notre Dame's Greg Davis was second at 56.30 meters (184-08).
Action resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the women's discus, while action starts on the track at 11 a.m. with the women's 10,000-meter run. Continue following live results on Twitter and DeltaTiming.com.
