ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Christina Madison led the Purdue track and field teams at the first day of the Georgia Spec Towns National Team Invitational on Friday, winning the women's triple jump with a season-best mark. Her leap of 12.52 meters (41-01.00) exceeded her season best by almost half a meter and vaulted her into the national top-30 in the event.
Madison led a 1-3 finish for the Boilermakers in the women's triple jump as fellow senior Nkeiru Ugwoaba continued her early season success with a leap of 12.44 meters (40-09.75) to place third overall. Sophomore Terri Anderson gave the Purdue women another top-three finish in the shot put, taking second place with a season-best toss of 15.02 meters (49-03.50), good for fifth best in the Big Ten so far this season.
Junior Bill Hardcastle and freshman Bre Fife rolled out solid performances in the men's and women's hammer throws as Hardcastle finished seventh in the men's field with a mark of 53.60 meters (175-10), while Fife was eighth on the women's side with a toss of 43.45 meters (142-06).
