EAST LANSING, Mich. - The effort was there for the Boilermakers at Michigan State on Thursday, but the end result was not favorable as Purdue falls to the Spartans 72-54.

For the first time this season the Boilermakers allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent from the field and that was due in large part to a plethora of transition baskets by Michigan State. The Spartans held a 14-0 advantage in fast break points and outscored Purdue 40-14 in the paint.

In contrast, the Boilermakers shot just 29.7 percent from the field. They had 10 more shot attempts in the game, but hit just 19 of 64 from the field.

Brittany Rayburn led Purdue with 11 points while freshman guard KK Houser contributed 10 points, five assists and three steals. Freshman Ashley Wilson pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and while recording five points and two steals.

Purdue forced 27 Spartan turnovers, but committed 22 themselves and held just a 20-18 advantage in points off those turnovers. The Boilermakers held a 16-12 advantage in second chance points, but were outrebounded 45-34.

The Spartans had four players in double-figures, led by Brittney Thomas' 16 points. Aisha Jefferson tallied 14 points, Allyssa DeHaan had 11 points and Porsche Poole contributed 10. The Boilermakers return to action on Monday when they take on No. 5/4 Ohio State in Mackey Arena. The game is at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on the ESPN2 as part of the Big Monday lineup.
