WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The ninth-ranked Boilermaker women's golf team has taken sole possession of second place with one round to play at the 2009 NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio.

No. 3 seed Purdue trails top-seeded UCLA by 10 strokes after firing a team total of 289 on Friday. The Boilermaker's second round score is a six stroke improvement from Thursday's 295, giving them a two-round total of 584. The Bruins carded 290 in the second round for a team tally of 574 at the par-72, 6,246-yard Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University. Fourth-ranked Oklahoma trails Purdue by five strokes for third place with a team score of 589 and No. 6 Wake Forest is in fourth after carding a two-round total of 593. Big Ten foe Michigan State is in fifth with a team total of 595.

Purdue sophomore Maude-Aimee LeBlanc is in third place after firing a three-under par 69 in the second round. The Big Ten Championships co-medalist is four-under par (140) for the tournament after opening play with a 71, and is just one stroke behind co-leaders from UCLA, Stephanie Kono and Maria Jose Uribe who shot 70s today for a two-round total of 139.

Teammates sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta and senior Maria Hernandez are tied for fifth at 145. Gulyanamitta fired a one-under par 71 in the second round while Hernandez tallied an even-par 72.

Sophomore Thea Hoffmeister has yet to find her stride, carding a second-round 78 to sit in a tie for 59th with a two-round total of 155. Freshman Vaishavi Sinha improved by nine strokes from day one to day two, firing a 77 on Friday for a total of 163 and a tie for 95th.

The Boilermakers will begin teeing off at 8:10 a.m. ET from hole No. 1 on Saturday in the final day of competition at the Central Regional. Purdue is in good shape to finish among the top eight teams and advance to the NCAA Championships in Owings Mills, Md., May 19 to 22.
