WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue shot a tournament-low 283 (-1) in round three of the 2009 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships. The Boilermakers moved into a tie for fourth place after concluding the first two rounds in 11th place. Their three-round cumulative score of 873 (+21) places them in a tie with Minnesota and Northwestern
The tournament, which Penn State is hosting, is being played at the Blue Course in State College, Pa. The course is a par-71, 7,150-yard venue.
Tyler Duncan, whose scores did not qualify in round one or round two for the Boilermakers, shot a tournament-low 68 (-3) in round three. Nakarintra Ratanakul and Erich Johnston both shot even par 71s. Maximo Kopp, who has the lowest three-round total for Purdue (218), shot a one-over par 73. Kopp's cumulative score of 218 (+5) places him in 12th place.
Illinois and Ohio State switched places during round three. Ohio State went into the third round leading the 15th-ranked Fighting Illini by one. Illinois, which has won its last three tournaments, shot a third round 284 (E) and now leads the tournament by seven strokes with a cumulative score of 864 (+12). Iowa rounds out the top three with a cumulative score of 872 (+20). Indiana, which came in to the tournament as the highest-ranked team at 10th, currently sits in seventh place with a three-round total of 875 (+23).
Eric Chun of Northwestern shot a 71 (E) in round three and remains at the top of the individual leader board. Penn State's Kevin Foley and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman, who shared medalist honors at the Boilermaker Invitational, trail Chun by four strokes. Matt Hoffman of Illinois also is four strokes behind Chun.
