Final Stats

MIAMI, Fla. - Try as they might, the Purdue soccer team was swept away by a Hurricane Wednesday night. Actually, about 11 of them. The Boilermakers fought until the final buzzer sounded, but still fell to Miami by the score 2-0.

"They got behind our defense twice tonight and we were unable to do that to them," Coach Rob Klatte said. "The shots we were getting were good looks, but they were not the kind of shots that are going to get you two or three goals per game."

Senior Jessica Okoroafo fired two shots on goal and senior Amy Burrell and sophomore Jessica Stellhorn tallied one for the Purdue attack. Senior Felicia Schroeder and freshman Britney Scott also got shots off, but it was not enough to stave off the shutout.

Miami got the scoring in the 22nd minute when Brittney Steinbruch notched her 7th goal of the season. The Hurricanes put the match out of reach in the 59th minute on another goal from Steinbruch.

Purdue did not go down quietly, however. After Steinbruch's second goal, Stellhorn got off three shots in the next ten minutes. Even though they kept putting the pressure on, Miami was always there for an answer. It is the second time this season Purdue has been shutout.

The Boilermakers return home for two weeks starting Friday at the Varsity Soccer Complex. They kick off the Boilermaker Challenge Cup when they play Rhode Island at 5:30 on the east field. At the same time, Indiana State will be playing Morehead State on the west field.
