GREENSBORO, Ga. - With the final group on the 18th tee box, inclement weather forced the conclusion of the second round to be suspended. The Purdue men's golf squad completed its round and is currently in 14th place with a two-day total of 610 at the third annual Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga.
No. 26 Mississippi retained its first-round lead and will take a six-shot advantage over No. 2 Georgia and No. 24 UT-Chattanooga heading into the conclusion of the second round and the final round of the 14-team event.
All five Purdue golfers improved their scores in the second round, led by an even-par 72 by freshman David Gersztein. Gersztein's 147 (+3) has him tied for 27th. Freshman Maximo Kopp fired a 74 for a two-round total of 152 and is tied for 46th place. Junior Michael Randle is tied for 58th after a 76 on Saturday. Erich Johnston carded a 76 in the second round and is in 72nd place with a 161, while Keith Shanks recorded a 79 and is tied for 70th.
Robbie Greenwell (68-68=136) of Memphis came from two shots back to grab the individual lead over first-round front-runner, Chattanooga's J.T. Clendenin. Clendenin was one of three players to have his round stall short and is one shot back of Greenwell. Georgia's Brian Harman shot the low round of the day with a five-under 67. Georgia State's Tom Sherreard recorded the shot of the tourney so far with a hole-in-one on the par-3, 201-yard 11th hole.
The final round will take place on Sunday, March 16 at Reynolds Landing, a par-72, 6,985-yard venue. The first tee time is slated for 8:30 a.m.
