Final Stats

The Purdue men's tennis team lost a hard-fought match to Wisconsin, as it fell 4-3 at the Purdue Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The Boilermakers dropped to 3-13, keeping them winless (0-7) in Big Ten action. The Badgers improve their record to 8-11 with a 2-6 mark in conference play.

The match began well for the Boilermakers when they captured the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles match-ups. Seniors Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell picked up the win at the No.1 doubles spot while the duo of junior Paul Rose and senior David Robinson clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 position. The solid play of sophomore Scott Warner and junior Colin Foster allowed for the win at the No. 3 position.

In singles, only two Boilermakers were able to get wins on the afternoon. Junior Paul Rose defeated Alex Kasarov in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Sophomore Eric Hodgman also won his match at the No. 6 position, beating Jordan Raemisch of Wisconsin 7-6, 6-1. The match-clinching point came down to the play between Purdue junior Colin Foster and Wisconsin junior Mark Weinig. Weinig managed to squeeze out the victory by a score of 7-6, 7-6.

Purdue head coach Tim Madden, though disappointed, liked what he saw from his team.

"It's very difficult to play hard and compete well and in the end, fall short of the victory," says Madden. "We're giving better competitive effort than we have been lately but we just came up short today and we'll look to improve in tomorrow's match."

The Boilermakers will look to end its 10-match losing streak tomorrow when it hosts Northwestern. Purdue seniors Sounak Chatterjee, Filip Koziell and David Robinson will conclude their careers as Boilermakers at the last home match of the year. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
