OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team moved up one spot to finish 11th in the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Golf Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill. The team fired a final-round 298 on Monday and totaled 892 over the 54 holes. Oklahoma State won the event with a total of 857. Texas finished second with an 864 and Indiana was third with a team total of 870.
Top finisher for Purdue was junior Tom Oliver. Oliver, who finished tied for third in last season's Fighting Illini Invitational, finished tied for seventh after a final round 74, giving him a three-day total of 217 (+7).
Junior Michael Randle was the low golfer on Monday for the Boilermakers, carding a final-round 73, earning him a tie for 36th with a tournament total 224. Also firing a 224 and tying for 36th was freshman Erich Johnston. He recorded a 76 on Monday, but opened the tournament with a 69, the Boilermakers' lowest round of the tournament.
Freshman Maximo Kopp finished 54th after shooting a final-round 75 (233). Freshman Nakarintra Ratanakul recorded an 84 on Monday, finishing 59th with a three-round total of 238.
Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler won the tournament by one stroke (203) over Indiana's Jorge Campillo (204).
The Fighting Illini Invitational was held on the North Course of the Olympia Country Club, a par-70, 7,157-yard layout, that was the site of the 2003 U.S. Open.
Next up for the Boilermakers is the Windon Memorial Classic on Oct. 7 to 8 in Glencoe, Ill., hosted by Northwestern.
