FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Purdue women's golf team is tied for 14th with a team score of 294 (+6) after the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.
The Boilermakers played solid golf but did not keep pace with the team leaders. Arizona State is in first place after recording an impressive eight-under par 280 on Friday. UCLA is just one stroke behind at 281 (-7), due largely to the play of Tiffany Joh who fired a seven-under 65 in the opening round and holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard.
All-Americans Maria Hernandez and Christel Boeljon led the way for the Boilermakers. Hernandez is tied for 17th, finishing her round with birdies on holes 17 and 18 to fire a one-under par 71. Boeljon is just one-stroke behind after carding a 72 in the first round. Boeljon had a birdie on 18 to move to even par and a tie for 24th.
Freshman Maude-Aimee Leblanc had a strong debut, shooting a 73 on Friday. She also birdie the final hole, giving her three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey, good for a tie for 35th after one round.
Freshman Junthima Gulyanamitta carded a 78 and at plus-six is tied for 80th. Stephanie Oukeo is 88th place with a first-round 81. The junior from Paris did birdie the par-5, 14th hole.
The Mason Rudolph is hosted by No. 8 Vanderbilt and features the top-nine teams in the nation, according to Golfweek, and 14 out of the top-27 teams in women's collegiate golf.
The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday and Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, on the par-72, 6,217-yard Ironhorse Course.
