SACRAMENTO, Ca. - The Purdue women's track and field team continued its solid performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Ca., as they advanced another competitor to the finals on Thursday.
Senior Lindsey Blaine guaranteed her best career national finish in the women's javelin, ranking in the top-12 of the prelims and advancing to Saturday's finals with a throw of 49.48 meters (162-04). She placed fifth in her flight on Thursday and is the No. 7 qualifier in Saturday's field of 12.
Junior captain Leah Kincaid moved on to the women's long jump final nine, climbing into the last qualifying spot after the first three attempts with a mark of 6.18 meters (20-03.50). However, that mark remained her best after her last three jumps and she finished in ninth place.
"Leah (Kincaid) had a great week," said Boilermaker Head Coach Jack Warner. "She was seeded much lower than she finished and was extremely consistent both days. We're very pleased with her effort."
Freshman Stacey Wannemacher was unable to advance to the finals in the women's shot put, finishing 28th in the prelims with a top throw of 13.95 meters (45-09.25).
Junior Astin Steward takes her shot at All-American status tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. PST in the women's discus.
