SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team's season ended on Saturday with the final round of the NCAA Central Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Boilermakers improved to 19th place with a team total of 309 on Saturday, but only the top 10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
Tulsa won the event with a total of 895. Alabama placed second with a team score of 898 and Louisville was third, scoring 899. Big Ten teams, Michigan State (915-8th) and Minnesota (918-T10th), made the top ten. The Golden Gophers edged Texas A&M (918) in a one-hole playoff to earn the final berth in the 2007 NCAA Championships.
Lamar's Dawie Van Der Walt and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman shared the individual title at one-under-par (215). They were the only two golfers to post below-par scores.
Senior Peter Richardson shot the only even-par round of the tournament for the Boilermakers, firing a 72 on Saturday. He finished tied for 21st with a total score of 226, 10 strokes over par.
Sophomore Tom Oliver fired a 76 in the final round. He tied for 58th overall after finishing plus-17 for the tournament.
After carding a 76 on Saturday, senior Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 82nd overall. Sophomore Michael Randle had a final round 86 and finished tied for 116th with a three-day total of 245.
Freshman Vince Nadeau fired a final-round 85 and finished 132nd overall.
The men's team's season has concluded, but the Purdue women's golf team resumes play on May 22 in the NCAA Championships at Daytona Beach, Fla.
