Women's Golf Tied For Fifth at NCAA Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. - After two rounds, the Purdue women's golf team is tied for fifth place with No. 5 Auburn and Louisville in the 2007 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional in Baton Rouge, La.

The fourth-seeded Boilermakers fired a 290 on Friday. Their total of 575 is 11 strokes behind the first-place team, No. 12 UCLA, with one round to play.

No. 18 Wake Forest is in second with a two-round total of 568, top-seeded and second-ranked Duke is third with a team score of 572 and Furman is in fourth just one stroke ahead of Purdue.

Purdue, ranked No.7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Poll, was led today by two sophomores as Stephanie Oukeo and Maria Hernandez both carded a one-under par 71 in the second round. Oukeo is the low golfer for the Boilermakers, tied for 12th with a total score of 141 (-3). Hernandez moved up to a tie for 31st with her two-round total of 145 (+1).

UCLA freshman Sydnee Michaels continues to hold the individual lead after rounds of 66 and 68.

Purdue sophomore Christel Boeljon is tied for 16th with a one-under 143. She shot a 74 on Friday despite a triple-bogey on hole No. 2, playing the rest of the round at one-under par.

Senior Myrte Eikenaar and freshman Stefanie Endstrasser are both tied for 47th with two round totals of 147. Both fired rounds of 74 today and 73 yesterday.

The top eight schools after three rounds advance to the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. Purdue has advanced to the last seven-straight championships.

The tournament is being held at the The University Club and hosted by Louisiana State.
