Taking The Lead

GREENSBORO, N.C. - After the first round of play at the Bryan National Collegiate, the No. 15 Purdue women's golf team sits in first place with a score of 290 (+2). The top of the field is very tight however, as five other teams are within ten strokes of the lead with two rounds to play.

No. 20 North Carolina is currently in second, just one stroke behind the Boilermakers after firing a 291 (+3) on the first day. No. 2 Duke sits in third place with a 292 (+4), just two strokes behind Purdue. South Carolina (297, +9), No. 12 Florida (298, +10), and No. 19 Virginia (300, +12) are all within striking distance, as well.

The Boilermakers were led by freshman Stefanie Endstrasser, who is currently tied for second place individually after posting a two-under, 70. Right behind her is a pair of sophomore teammates, Maria Hernandez and Christel Boeljon. Hernandez (T-4) shot a one-under, 71 and Boeljon (T-12) carded a one-over, 73. Rounding out the scoring for Purdue was senior Myrte Eikenaar (T-37) with a four-over, 76.

South Carolina's Jenna Pearson is the first round leader after posting a four-under, 68 today. She leads by two strokes over Endstrasser and Furman's Blair Lamb (70, -2). North Carolina's Sydney Crane, Virginia's Leah Wigger, and Hernandez are tied for fourth after firing opening round 71s (-1).
