WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Nine dropped its first Friday Big Ten game in three weeks, falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 6-2 at Lambert Field.
The Boilermakers are now 17-18 overall on the season and 7-9 in conference play. OSU improved to 24-11 and 9-6.
Ohio State scored in the top of the first inning to take hold of the lead and the Boilermakers could not respond, trailing the entire game in the defeat. Purdue starting pitcher Tony Sedlmeyer (5-3) went four innings and surrendered five runs.
OSU added a run in the second, three in the fourth and one in the sixth, extending to a 6-0 lead before the Boilermakers cracked the scoreboard.
Purdue's two runs game came in the home half of the sixth inning on a Ryne White single and two Buckeyes errors. Alex Jaffee began the scoring with a fly ball to right that was dropped by OSU's Ryan Dew, allowing Jaffee to end up on second. White followed with an RBI single up the middle, swiped second base, and scored when John Cummins' grounder skipped through the legs of OSU shortstop Jason Zoeller.
White was the leader at the plate for Purdue, picking up two hits in three at-bats with a run and an RBI. Jon Moore joined White with a two-hit performance.
