A Case of the Monday Blues

ORLANDO, Fla. - After the first two rounds of play at the UCF Challenge, the Purdue women's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place with a two day total of 617. The No. 12 Boilermakers posted a 313 in the morning and improved in the afternoon with a score of 304.

No. 4 Duke raced out to a commanding lead with a team score of three-under, 573. They lead by an astounding 21 shots over No. 3 Pepperdine. The Blue Devils and the Waves were the only two teams to fire sub-300 scores in the first round, Duke with a 289 and Pepperdine with a 296. Top-ranked Georgia is in third place after the first two rounds with a team total of 595.

Purdue was led today by a breakout performance from freshman Stefanie Endstrasser. The newcomer posted a 79 in the morning, but had the second-best score of the second round with a three-under 69 for a 148 total. She sits in a tie for 11th place after the first day of competition. Senior Myrte Eikenaar was also solid on the first day with a 75 in the morning and a 77 in the afternoon, for a total of 152 and a tie for 19th. Sophomore Maria Hernandez improved on a first round 80 with a 75 in the afternoon to place her into a tie for 32nd at 155. Sophomore Christel Boeljon rounded out the scoring for the Boilermakers with a first round 79 and a second round 83 for a 162 and a tie for 62nd. Senior Caroline Haase is in 73rd with a two round total of 182.

Duke's Amanda Blumenherst has a lot of breathing room entering the final day after posting the low score in each of the first two rounds. She fired a two-under 70 in the morning and a seven-under 65 in the afternoon to end with a nine-under 135. Five players are tied for second, ten shots back of Blumenherst: Misun Cho of Pepperdine, Alina Lee of Georgia, Jennie Lee of Duke, Nicole Montgomery of Pepperdine, and Alison Whitaker of Duke.
