AUSTIN, Texas - Purdue freshman Vince Nadeau paced the Boilermakers with a four under-par 68 in the opening round of the 41st annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate Monday afternoon at the par 72, 6,906-yard Austin Country Club.
The 14-team field was scheduled to play two rounds, or 36 holes, on Monday, but rainy conditions in Austin, Texas suspended play less than halfway into the second round.
The tournament has been shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes due to the persistent inclement weather and the potential of continued unsettled weather on Tuesday. A full second round of 18 holes will begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., and Monday's second-round scores will not count toward team or individual totals.
Purdue ended the first round tied for tenth place with an nine-over 297. Kent State leads the tournament at three-under par, while Texas A&M holds second place at one-under par.
Nadeau was the low-scorer for the Boilermakers and currently sits in second place, trailing the leader, David Ludlow of Kent State by two strokes.
Senior Bobby Bennett carded a first round 73 and is tied for 19th. Sophomore Tom Oliver shot an opening round 77 which has him tied for 58th.
Big Ten Golfer of the Week Pariya Junhasavasdikul recorded a 79 on Monday and is tied for 64th while senior Peter Richardson opened with an 81 and is tied for 73rd.
