MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - The Purdue men's golf team finished in a tie for 12th with North Florida at the General Jim Hackler Championship. Both teams finished with scores of 886 after three-rounds of play. The two-day tournament was held at the TPC course of Myrtle Beach and included an elite field with four of the top 12 teams in the country and 10 of the top 50.
No. 11 Lamar University led the field by shooting a three-round 838 for 26 under par. The closest competitor was the host team, No. 8 Coastal Carolina with a score of 848. No. 5 Southern California, No. 23 Duke and No. 12 East Tennessee State rounded out the top five.
The individual medalist was Rhys Davies from East Tennessee State, who carded a three-round total of 206 (-10).
Leading the way for Purdue was senior Pariya Junhasavasdikul who shot a two-under par 214, including a final round 67, placing him in a tie for 13th.
Senior Peter Richardson carded a 219 and placed 30th. His best round was yesterday when he recorded a 68 in the second round. Senior Bobby Bennett and freshman Vince Nadaeau both shot 229, finishing tied for 75th. Freshman Ryan Thomas shot 232 and finished 86th, while sophomore Tom Oliver competed as an independent and also scored 232 for three-rounds.
The men are back in action on March 26 and 27 at the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.
