KAUAI, Hawaii - The 17th-ranked Purdue women's golf team shot a final round 283 to win the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational. It is the first tournament victory of the year for the Boilermakers.
The Boilermakers totaled 878 over the three rounds to move past No. 8 Pepperdine who finished with a total of 885. Twenty-fifth ranked Kent State tied for third with UNLV after both finished with scores of 893. They were followed by TCU (907) in fifth and Texas (915) in sixth.
UNLV's Natasha Krishna took home top individual honors. She fired a final-round 69 and totaled 212. Purdue's Maria Hernandez shot a final round 66, the lowest individual score of the tournament, to move into second place with a three-round score of 215.
Purdue had two others finish in the top 10. Junior Whitney Frykman finished fifth with a total of 219 and sophomore Christel Boeljon tied for eighth after a total of 222. She fired her lowest final round today, a one-over 71.
Freshman Fabienne In-Albon tied for 13th with 224 and senior Myrte Eikenaar totaled 225, good for a tie for 16th. Both golfers carded their lowest scores of the tournament in the third round with scores of 73.
Iowa State tied for seventh with Tulsa (921) and Michigan (929) finished ninth.
The event was played at the 6,183-yard, par-70 Kiahuna Golf Club. Purdue hosted the tournament in conjunction with a men's tournament. It is the first year for the event.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Feb. 23-25 when they host the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
