Aloha Purdue

KAUAI, Hawaii - The Purdue men's golf team finished third at the 2006 Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational in Kauai.

The Boilermakers were in first place after the first two rounds, but fell to third place after a final-round 289. Purdue totaled 853 strokes over three rounds. Texas won the tournament with a total of 847. Michigan (853) took second and Virginia Tech (857) was fourth.

Clemson's Kyle Stanley finished in first place after a playoff with Virginia Tech's Drew Weaver. Both finished with a three-under par total of 207 after 54 holes.

Purdue's top finisher was senior Peter Richardson who tied for 3rd overall. He fired a 63 in the first round and totaled 208 over three rounds.

Senior Pariya Junhasavasdikul carded a final-round 71, good for seventh overall after a total of 210. Sophomore Michael Randle tied for ninth with a total of 210 after shooting a one-under 69 in the final round.

Senior Bobby Bennett finished 39th after a three-round total of 229. Bennett carded a final-round 76. Freshman Vince Nadeau finished 40th after a total of 230.

The nine-team event was hosted by Purdue. The tournament was played in conjunction with a women's tournament on the 6,885-yard, par-70 Kiahuna Golf Club in Kauai, Hawaii.

This was the first year for the Invitational. Rounding out the field was Clemson in fifth place, Pepperdine in sixth, Alabama seventh, Notre Dame was eighth and Rice finished ninth.

The Boilermakers are in action again Feb. 10 and 11 in the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
