WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Purdue men's golf team finished in third place at the 2006 Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., on Sunday. It is the second third place finish this season for the Boilermakers.
The team fired a final-round 296, tying their opening round of the tournament. The Boilermakers totaled 897 over the 54 holes. Tulsa won the event with a total of 868. Xavier finished second with an 894 just three strokes ahead of Purdue.
Top finishers for Purdue were seniors Peter Richardson and Pariya Junhasavasdikul. Richardson finished in seventh after a team-low, even-par 72 on Sunday for a three-day total of 221. Junhasavasdikul carded a final-round 75 which earned him a tie for 15th and a tournament total of 225.
Senior Bobby Bennett tied for 19th place. He totaled 227 and recorded a 74 on Sunday. Sophomore Michael Randle finished 24th after shooting a 78 (230).
Freshman Vince Nadeau finished tied for 25th after a tournament total of 231, including a final round 75. The Landfall Tradition also featured a 12-team women's tournament, which the Purdue women's team won last year. This year the Boilermaker women didn't compete and Virginia edged out Michigan for the title.
Both tournaments were held on the Jack Nicklaus designed Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall. The men's track is a par 72, 6,992-yard layout.
Next up for the Boilermakers is the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational Nov. 22-23 in Kauai, Hawaii, hosted by Purdue. This is a tournament for both the men and the women and live scoring of the event can be found on golfstat.com.
