TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Purdue University men's and women's cross country teams opened the postseason on Saturday, finishing 34th and 35th, respectively, in the White Division of the Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University. Senior Justin Stadt paced the Boilermaker men with a career-best time of 24:58.9 for 8K, while first-year Kristin Phillips led the Purdue women with a time of 21:47.6 in her first collegiate 6K race.
The men's team saw its share of personal-bests as six runners crossed the tape under the 26-minute mark. Following Stadt's pace was junior Eric Hammond at 25:08.2 and senior Justin Gauthier at 25:31.4. Senior Michial Jacob and rookie Neno Bellinotti posted collegiate-bests as well, coming in at 25:40.0 and 25:51.7, respectively, while senior Josh Robinson finished in 25:56.3 and freshman Ryan Feeney rounded out the Purdue field with a mark of 26:31.9.
Phillips posted the Boilermakers' best time at ISU for the second time this season, after leading the pack at the Indiana Intercollegiates two weeks ago. Classmate Katie Morrical kept pace with Phillips, notching a 22:01.1, while junior Carrie Fett was the third Boilermaker to finish, registering a 22:34.4. Rookies Amye Adcock and Jessica Hampson completed the Purdue scoring with respective times of 22:43.8 and 22:59.0. Junior Danielle Ginther and junior Rachel Kroll produced stellar efforts as well, crossing just four seconds apart at 23:24.1 and 23:28.7.
Iona captured the team title in the White Division with a score of 100, and North Carolina State topped the White Division on the women's side with 117. Liberty's Josh McDougal led the men's field with a time of 23:14.0, while NC State's Julia Lucas placed first for the women at 20:01.4.
