The Purdue women's golf team moved up four spots and is tied for fifth place at the midway point of the 2006 NCAA Women's Golf National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

The seventh-ranked Boilermakers fired a seven-over 295, six strokes lower than their first round score. Purdue is tied with Pepperdine for fifth place, 10 strokes behind tournament leader Arizona State. Duke is in second place, USC is third and Tennessee is in fourth place.

Purdue was led individually by Big Ten Golfer of the Year Onnarin Sattayabanphot. After a first-round 74, Sattayabanphot came back with a one-under 71. She recorded four birdies and three bogeys during her second round. She is tied for fifth place overall after a total of 145.

Freshman Maria Hernandez improved four strokes over her first round score and is tied for 15th overall. Hernandez carded a 76 on Tuesday, but posted an even-par round on Wednesday. She tallied three birdies and three bogeys in the second round.

Big Ten Freshman of the Year Christel Boeljon is tied for 39th overall. Boeljon fired a 76 on Wednesday. She played her first nine at one-over, but her back included three bogeys.

Junior Myrte Eikenaar and sophomore Whitney Frykman are both tied for 73rd overall. Eikenaar fired a second-round 78. Frykman was at even par, but had bogeys on four of her last five holes to finish with a 76. The championships are being held on Ohio State's Scarlet Course, which was recently given a complete makeover.

After a stellar season, the Boilermakers are looking for their first national championship in the program's history. Purdue has won its last two tournaments and a school-record six events during the 2005-06 season. After winning the Big Ten Championships on April 30, the Boilermakers won the 2006 NCAA West Regional Championships in Auburn, Washington, on May 13.

Purdue is one of five schools to advance to the 2006 NCAA Championships in the last seven straight seasons. The other four schools are Arizona State, Duke, Stanford and USC. It's best finish at the NCAA Championships was a ninth-place showing in 2000.

Purdue teed off at 8:30 a.m.in the second round. They will begin round No. 3 at 12:30 p.m. ET.
