After two rounds, the Purdue women's golf team has put itself in great position to win the 2006 NCAA Women's Golf West Regional in Auburn, Wash.

The third-seeded Boilermakers fired a 294 on Friday , the lowest round of the day. Their total of 583 is eight strokes ahead of No. 2 UCLA and host school Washington.

Purdue is the only school to break 300 in each of the first two rounds. Stanford and No. 5 Georgia are tied for fourth, 15 strokes back.

Purdue, ranked No.8 in the Golfweek.com Poll, has three individuals in the top five spots and four in the top 21.

Washington's Paige MacKenzie has the individual lead after rounds of 68 and 69 on her home course.

Freshman Christel Boeljon is tied for second at even par. Her round of 72 on Friday included three birdies and three bogeys.

Senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot and freshman Maria Hernandez are both tied for fifth at two-over par. Sattayabanphot rebounded after a74 on Thursday with a 72 on Friday. She carded one birdie and one bogey. Hernandez posted a 75 after an opening round 71, a team low for the event through two rounds.

Junior Myrte Eikenaar is tied for 21st after a round of 78 on Friday. She is six over par after two rounds. Sophomore Whitney Frykman is tied for 53rd at 12 over. She carded a 75 on Friday, overcoming a double bogey on the first hole and playing the rest of the round at one over par.

The top eight schools after three rounds advance to the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Purdue has advanced to the last six-straight championships.

The tournament is being held at the Washington National Golf Club and hosted by Washington University.
