EAST LANSING, MICH. - Freshman pole vaulter Brianna Neumann scored Purdue's lone points during the first day of the Big Ten Championships Friday night.
The Boilermaker women are in seventh place with 6.33 points. The men's team goes into Saturday's competitions with zero points.
Neumann tied Michigan's Kelly Cation for second place with a height of 3.65 meters (11 feet-11.75 inches). Minnesota's Laura Massey won the title with a top jump of 3.80 meters (12-5.50).
Heptathlete Lindsay Singelton finds herself in third place through four of seven events with 3,045 points. Singleton ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.62 seconds, tossed the shot put 10.26 meters (33-8), lept 1.62 meters (5-3.75) in the high jump, and finished the 200-meter dash in 25.43.
Minneota's Liz Roehrig leads the hepathlon field with 3,447 points and Bettie Wade of Michigan is currently in second with 3,222 points.
The Big Ten Championships resume Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the decathlon's 110-meter hurdles.
