The Purdue men's golf team is in fifth place after three rounds at the Big Ten Championships in Lake Forest, Ill.
The Boilermakers fired a third-round 294 on Saturday in rainy and cold conditions. Their total was the highest of the three rounds. Purdue's total of 864 (+12) is only eight strokes off Indiana (+4) for the tournament lead. Michigan State is second (+6), host school Northwestern is third (+7) and Minnesota (+10) is fourth.
Purdue has two individuals in the top 10 spots after three rounds.
Junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul is in second place overall. He fired an even-par 71 on Saturday, the lowest round of the day for Purdue. He is five-under par after 54 holes.
Junior Peter Richardson is three-over par after firing a 72 on Saturday. He is tied for 10th place overall.
Junior Bobby Bennett is tied for 31st after a 75 in the third round. He is 12 over par through three rounds.
Freshman Tom Oliver and sophomore Santiago Russi are both tied for 38th overall. Oliver fired an 81 on Saturday and Russi carded a 76. The tournament is being held at Conway Farms Golf Club. The track is a par 71, 7,168-yard layout. The Boilermakers finished fifth in last year's event.
Purdue is ranked 42nd in the latest Golfweek.com poll. Northwestern is the top-ranked team in the field at No. 31. Minnesota is ranked No. 33.
The final round will consist of 18 holes on Sunday.
