The Purdue men's golf team finished fifth at the 2006 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.

After firing back-to-back rounds of 302 on Saturday, the Boilermakers carded a 305 on Sunday and totaled 909 over the three days. They were tied for sixth after the second round. Northwestern won the event with a total of 878. Indiana (882) placed second, Xavier (903) was third and Marshall (904) was fourth.

Purdue was led all weekend by junior Peter Richardson. After carding a team-tournament low 70 on Saturday, he fired a final-round 76 and totaled 219. He tied for sixth overall.

Junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 20th after a 76 on Sunday. He totaled 227 over the two days.

Sophomore Santiago Russi and freshman Tom Oliver both tied for 45th place. Russi recorded the lowest round of the day for the Boilermakers, a two-over 74. Oliver had a 79 after a 73 on Saturday.

Junior Bobby Bennett totaled 238 and tied for 56th overall after an 81 on Sunday.

The Boilermakers are ranked No. 42 in the latest Golfweek.com Poll. They are coming off a second-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational on April 9.

The Robert Kepler Intercollegiate began in 1969 and has been held every year since, with the exception of last year, when it was cancelled due to weather. Purdue has participated in the event 35 times. It's best finish was second-place finish in 1981. It placed third in 2002, when Lee Williamson was the individual champion.

The 15-team field included Akron, Ball State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Toledo, Wisconsin and Xavier. Ohio State is the host school.

The tournament was held at Muirfield Village Golf Club, home of the PGA Tour's Memorial, hosted by Jack Nicklaus.

The Boilermakers will now prepare for the Big Ten Championships from April 28 to 30. The tournament will be hosted by Northwestern.
