Third In Austin

AUSTIN, Texas - The Purdue women's golf team finished in third place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.

The eighth-ranked Boilermakers fired a final-round 318, 16 strokes more than their second-round score. Purdue totaled 926 over the three rounds. Top-ranked Duke won the event with a total of 907. Texas A&M captured second place with a total of 916.

The Boilermakers were in sixth place after the first round, but battled back to third on Saturday. Purdue finished ahead of 12 other teams.

Freshman Christel Boeljon was the top-placing Boilermaker. Boeljon finished 10th after a total of 230. She fired a final-round 75, three strokes over par.

Senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot had a rollercoaster of a weekend. She carded an 80 on Friday, a 73 on Saturday and concluded with a 79. She finished 14th after a total of 232.

Freshman Maria Hernandez tied for 16th overall. She carded an 83 on Sunday. She totaled 234 over the three days.

Sophomore Whitney Frykman totaled an 83 on Sunday and finished 21st. She totaled 235.

Junior Myrte Eikenaar finished 35th. Eikenaar posted an 81 on Sunday and totaled 238 strokes.

This was the third appearance for the Boilermakers in the event. They placed fourth in 2001. The Betsy Rawls Invitational featured 15 teams, including top-ranked Duke.

The Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational was held at the par 72, 6,353-yard University of Texas Golf Club.

The Boilermakers placed second in their previous two spring events. They captured a school-record four tournaments in the fall season.

The Boilermakers are in action again on March 31 to April 2 at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
