TAMPA, Fla. - The Boilermakers managed just three hits against Bowling Green in the first round of bracket play at the Speedline Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won the game 6-0.

Bowling Green put a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings with a hit and a walk, but could not manage a run.

Junior DaQueta Johnson (Ontario, Calif.) recorded Purdue's first hit with a single to center field in the bottom of the second, but the Boilermakers could not turn the hit into a tally on the scoreboard.

The Falcons scored one run on three hits in the fourth. Gina Rango led off with a single, then rounded the bases on a sacrifice and another single before scoring on a deep fly ball to center.

The Boilermakers put two on with two outs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Tricia Lilley (North Canton, Ohio) reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, then was joined on base by Johnson, who singled to right. A pop up left both stranded.

BGSU added another run on a hit, an error and a squeeze bunt in the sixth. Desiree Miller reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, then moved to third on a double to left center before scoring on the squeeze.

Purdue threatened in the bottom of the inning putting runners at second and third with two outs. A fielder's choice put senior Staci Falzon (Carlsbad, Calif.) on base, then sophomore Ashley Hall reached on a bunt single. Both runners advanced on a ground out, but were left stranded by a pop up.

Bowling Green tacked on four more runs on five singles and a sacrifice in the seventh.

The Boilermakers went down in order to end the game.

Johnson tallied two of Purdue's three hits, while BGSU scored six runs on 10 hits and two Boilermaker miscues.

Hayley Wiemer earned the complete-game victory for the Falcons, while senior Diana LaRiva (Tustin, Calif.) was charged with the loss for Purdue.

The Boilermakers return to action at 8:30 a.m. against a yet-to-be determined opponent.
