The Purdue men's golf team tied for seventh at the 2006 Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande.

The Boilermakers were in fifth place after the first two rounds, but fell into a tie with Duke for seventh place after a final-round 301. Purdue totaled 876 strokes over the three rounds. Georgia won the tournament with a total of 843. Florida (847) took second and Oklahoma State (862) placed third.

Georgia's Chris Kirk was the top finishing individual. He totaled an 11-under 205, highlighted by a final-round 67.

Purdue's top finisher was junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul, who tied for 23rd overall. He fired a 73 on Tuesday and totaled 217 over the 54 holes.

Sophomore Michael Randle carded a final-round 76 and tied for 35th overall after a total of 219. Sophomore Santiago Russi was tied for fifth after 36 holes, but fired a 79 on Tuesday. He tied for 38th overall with a total of 220.

Junior Bobby Bennett tied for 59th after a total of 225. Bennett carded a final-round 76. Junior Peter Richardson tied for 63rd after a total of 226.

The 16-team event was hosted by Purdue. The tournament was played on the 6,945-yard, par-72 River Course at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club.

This was the sixth year for the Classic. Georgia Tech was the 2005 team champion and Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares took home top individual honors.

The Boilermakers are in action again on March 17 to 19 at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Houston, Texas.
