The Purdue men's golf team is in fifth place after the second round of the 2006 Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande.
The Boilermakers fired a second-round 288 and trail Oklahoma State by 12 strokes for first place. Georgia is in second place after a total of 564. Florida is in third (568) and Alabama is fourth (574). Purdue was in sixth place after the first round, but moved ahead of Texas. The Longhorns fired a 298 on Monday.
Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin is the individual leader after a second-round 67. His total of 135 is three strokes better than the second-place individual.
For the second-straight round, Purdue's Santiago Russi posted a sub-par round. Russi fired a two-under 70 on Sunday and a one-under 71 on Monday. His total of 141 ties him for fifth with one round remaining.
Michael Randle posted a one-under 71 on Monday. He is tied for 17th after a total of 143.
Pariya Junhasavasdikul was the lowest Boilermakers in round one. After a 69 Sunday, Junhasavasdikul posted a 75 on Monday and is tied for 24th.
Junior Bobby Bennett is tied for 51st after a second-round 72, five strokes lower than his Sunday score. Peter Richardson is tied for 59th after a total of 150. He posted a 74 on Monday.
The 16-team event is being hosted by Purdue. The tournament is being played on the 6,945-yard, par-72 River Course at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club.
This is the sixth year for the Classic. Georgia Tech was the 2005 team champion and Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares took home top individual honors.
