The Purdue women's golf team began the spring season right where it left off during the fall - atop the leaderboard. The Boilermakers had four individuals in the top 25.

The Boilermakers fired a first-round 295 to lead the Lady Puerto Rico Classic by two strokes over Kent State. Purdue is the host of the Classic, one of collegiate golf's most competitive tournaments.

Arkansas is in third place (298), Florida fourth (299) and Oklahoma State in fifth (300). The 16-team field also includes Big Ten conference members Wisconsin (320), Indiana (322) and Minnesota (328).

Purdue was led by senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot, who fired a one-under 71. North Carolina's Ann Lacey was the low individual after Friday. She carded a four-under 68. Sattayabanphot is in second place by herself.

Freshmen Christel Boeljon and Maria Hernandez are in fifth and 17th place respectively. Boeljon is tied for fifth after a round of 73. Hernandez fired a 75 to tie for 17th.

Sophomore Whitney Frykman is tied for 25th after a round of 76. Junior Myrte Eikenaar fired a first-round 79 and is tied for 46th. Caroline Haase competed as individual and tied for 54th after a round of 80.

The event is being played at the 6,000-yard, par-72 CoCo Beach Golf Course.

This is the fourth year for Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Last year's event was won by Auburn, which fired a 216. Diana Ramage captured individual honors. Duke captured the team title in the first two years of the tournament.

The second round begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. EST.
