GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Purdue men's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Gator Invitational, the spring season's first tournament. The event's final round was on Sunday and held in Gainesville, Fla.

Purdue was tied for eighth after the first 36 holes with South Carolina. Both teams fired 295 strokes on Sunday. Their total of 890 placed them in a three-way tie for eighth with Central Florida.

Florida won the event with a total of 855. Tulsa's Same Korbe was the individual medalist.

Sophomore Santiago Russi saved his best round for last. He fired a team-low 69 on Sunday. He tied with junior Peter Richardson for 25th place overall. Richardson carded a 75 in the final round and totaled 221 over the two days.

Junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 29th after a total of 222. Junhasavasdikul carded a 74 on Sunday.

Sophomore Michael Randle fired a final-round 77 and tied for 46th overall. He totaled 228 strokes. Freshman Tom Oliver finished 73rd in his first collegiate event. He totaled 23 strokes.

The 16-team tournament was held at thepar-70, 6,701-yard University of Florida Golf Course.

The Boilermakers are in action again on Feb. 26 to 28, when they host the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan. The Puerto Rico Classic is one of collegiate golf's premier events.
