MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - No. 14 Purdue women's swimming and diving leads all three of its duals following the first day of competition at the Big Ten Tri-Quad.
The Boilermakers, who collected five victories Friday, lead the No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers, 117-88, Minnesota, 114-100, and Illinois, 152-53.
On the men's side, the 14th-ranked Boilermakers lead the Badgers, 133-72, but trail the Golden Gophers, 117-88.
Carrie McCambridge led the women's team with a pair of wins of both springboards. The All-American scored 285.55 off the 1-meter and 314.10 off the 3-meter. Teammate Amanda Miller was the runner-up off both boards.
The women also picked up wins from Susan Hentschel in the 200 free, Jenae Gill in the 100 back and Carlene Takaki in the 200 fly. Hentschel's winning mark of 1:49.55 was a season best and NCAA provisional cut.
Led by Jennifer Lavers, the Boilermakers scored a chunk of points in the 100 breaststroke. Lavers finished third and was followed to the wall by teammates Rory Belk and Shannon Grace.
Success also carried to the Boiler relays. The 200 medley relay of Gill, Lavers, Takaki and Kimbre Vogel posted a winning and season best time of 1:43.43. The 800 free relay of Erica Chandler, Kat Telfer, Jen Merte and Hentschel placed second in 7:22.43, also a season best for Purdue.
The men's side scored victories from Giordan Pogioli in the 100 breaststroke and Steve LoBue in the 1- and 3-meter competitions.
Purdue's diving scores off the 3-meter were phenomenal. LoBue set a new varsity record with 369.60 points and was followed by Josh Karshen (367.50) and Zach Schultz (328.00), both of whom tallied season-best point totals.
The Boilermakers collected several runner-up finishes: Romain Maire in the 200 free (1:39.95), Blake Scholz in the 200 fly (1:50.99) and Pogioli in the 200 IM (1:51.22). Purdue also placed second to the Gophers in the 200 medley relay with a season-best mark of 1:29.84.
