WILMINGTON, N.C. - The No. 5 Purdue women's golf team leads the field after the first round of the 2005 Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
The Boilermakers, who have won two of three fall events this season, lead Virginia by two strokes after the first 18 holes. Purdue totaled a 14-over 302. The Boilermakers lead Wake Forest by six strokes and Tulsa by seven strokes.
Freshman Christel Boeljon posted the best round of the day for Purdue. She was one over on both nines and totaled a 74. She is tied for fourth overall.
Junior Myrte Eikenaar carded a three-over 75 and is tied for seventh overall. Freshman Maria Hernandez, who won the Lady Northern Invitational earlier this season, recorded a first-round 76. She is tied for 10th overall.
Sophomore Whitney Frykman and senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot are both tied for 15th after firing a pair of 77s. Sattayabanphot captured the Badger Invitational in September.
The Landfall Tradition is also featuring a 12-team men's tournament.
Both tournament are competing on the Jack Nicklaus designed Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall. The men's track is a par 72, 6,992-yard layout. The women will be facing a par 72, 6,070-yard challenge.
The Boilermakers tee off in the second round on Saturday morning.
