The Purdue women's golf team finished second at the 2005 Mercedes-Benz Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday.
Purdue led after both the first and second rounds, but fired a final-round 296 and finished three strokes behind No. 3 Georgia. The Boilermakers fired a first-round 288 and shot a 301 on Saturday. Their total of 885 was the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history.
Senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot finished in fifth place overall. She fired a final-round 72 and totaled 218 on the week. Sattayabanphot has placed in the top five on all three tournaments this fall season.
Freshmen Christel Boeljon has the best tournament of her young career, tying for seventh overall. She totaled 221 and recorded a 73 on Sunday.
Junior Myrte Eikenaar tied for 18th. She came back from an 81 on Saturday to post a 73 on Sunday. She totaled 226.
Sophomore Whitney Frykman tied for 28th overall. She was in the top five all tournament, but fired a final-round 82. Freshman Maria Hernandez tied for 48th. She totaled 233 after a final-round 78.
The Boilermakers are ranked No. 6 in the current Golfweek Poll.
Tennessee hosted the event at the 5,932-yard, par-71 Cherokee Country Club.
Purdue has played in the event in each of the last seven seasons. In 2002, the Boilermakers took home top honors and Kari Damron won the individual title.
The Boilermakers have two of three events they have competed in this fall. The captured the Badger Invitational on Sept. 12 and the Lady Northern Invitational on Oct. 23.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 28 to 30 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
