The Purdue women's golf team is 18 holes away from their third tournament win in as many outings this fall season. The Boilermakers own a one-stroke lead after the second round of the 2005 Mercedes-Benz Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Boilermakers fired a second-round 301 and have a total of 589. No 3 Georgia fired a 293 and has a total of 590. Arkansas is tied for third place with the Swedish National Team and Tennessee is in fifth.
Sophomore Whitney Frykman and senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot are tied for third place as individuals. Both players led after the first 18 holes and fired second-round 76s.
Freshmen Christel Boeljon is tied for ninth after a second-round 72, the lowest round on the day for the Boilermakers.
Junior Myrte Eikenaar is tied for 32nd with a 153 and freshman Maria Hernandez is tied for 40th with a total of 155.
The Boilermakers are ranked No. 6 in the current Golfweek Poll.
Tennessee is hosting the event at the 5,932-yard, par-71 Cherokee Country Club.
Purdue has played in the event in each of the last six seasons. In 2002, the Boilermakers took home top honors and Kari Damron won the individual title.
The Boilermakers have won both events they have competed in this fall. The captured the Badger Invitational on Sept. 12 and the Lady Northern Invitational on Oct. 23.
