FAIRFAX, Calif. - The Purdue men's golf team finished third at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. on Tuesday.
The Boilermakers were in first place after 36 holes, but fired-round 294 and finished four strokes behind host California for the crown. Fresno State finished second with an 847. Purdue fired back-to-back rounds of 277, both tying a school 18-hole record.
Junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul finished fifth overall. He totaled a 209 over the three rounds. Junhasavasdikul fired a team-low 70 on Tuesday and was four under for the event. It was his second straight top-10 finish of the of the fall season.
Sophomore Santiago Russi tied for 10th place after totaling 211 strokes. He fired a three-over 74 in the final round.
Juniors Peter Richardson and Bobby Bennett tied for 23rd and 28th respectively. Richardson finished one-over par (214) and Bennett totaled 215. The duo both posted final-round 75s.
Junior Johan Edin tied for 46th overall. He fired a 76 on Tuesday and totaled 220.
The invitational was held at the 6,606-yard, par-71 Meadow Club Golf Course.
This was the third-straight year the Boilermakers played in the event. In 2004, they placed second out of 15 teams.
California hosted the event. Other teams in the field included Cal Poly, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Irvine, Washington State and Wichita State.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 28 to 30 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
