FAIRFAX, Calif. - The Purdue men's golf team leads the pack after the first 36 holes of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.

The Boilermakers fired back-to-back rounds of 277 and totaled 554 on Monday. The rounds tie the school record for a low 18-hole team score. Purdue leads Michigan by one stroke and is three strokes ahead of host California.

Four Boilermakers are in the top 14 spots after 36 holes.

Sophomore Santiago Russi put together the best rounds of his young career and is tied for sixth overall. Russi carded a 70 on Monday morning and then fired a four-under 67 during the afternoon round.

Juniors Pariya Junhasavasdikul and Peter Richardson are both tied for 11th overall. The duo is both three-under par with rounds of 69 and 70 each.

Junior Bobby Bennett fired a two-under par 140. He is tied for 14th overall. Junior Johan Edin is tied for 42nd. He fired a two-under 69 in the morning round, but came back with a 75 in the afternoon.

The invitational is being played at the 6,606-yard, par-71 Meadow Club Golf Course.

This is the third-straight year the Boilermakers are playing in the event. In 2004, they placed second out of 15 teams.

California is hosting the event. Other teams in the field include Cal Poly, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Irvine, Washington State and Wichita State.

The final 18 holes will be held on Tuesday afternoon.
