BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue women's cross country team placed second and the men's squad took third at the 2005 Indiana Intercollegiates in Bloomington, Ind., at the IU Cross Country Course.

The Boilermaker women finished with 98 points, 35 points behind team champion Indiana, in the 5K event. On the men's side, Purdue scored 116 points in the 8K race, finishing behind Indiana State (41 points) and Indiana (63).

Lindsay Zinn (senior) was Purdue's top female runner, placing third across the finish line with a time of 18:08. Zinn's time cut 28 seconds off her time at the Great American Legends race one week earlier.

The top male runner for the Boilermakers was Justin Stadt (junior), who circled the course in 25:47, good for 10th place. Stadt also cut significant time from his showing one week earlier, when he ran the Great American Legends in 26:21.

The overall winner of the women's race was Heather Cooksey of Southern Indiana with a time of 17:46. The men's champion was Indiana State's Sean Bowman with a showing of 25:12.

Following Zinn across the line for the Boilermakers were sophomore Carrie Fett (19th, 18:59), senior Corrie Whisner (23rd, 19:14), freshman Elle Lammers (25th, 19:22) and senior Kaleena Cappel (28th, 19:25).

The Boilermaker women had the best grouping among their top seven finshers, with junior Dana Cooreman (32nd, 19:29) and senior Laura Farley (36th, 19:35) rounding our the seven scorers. The second-best grouping by a school was Indiana, whose seventh runner placed 49th in the 203-person field.

Behind Stadt for the Boilermaker men were sophomore Eric Hammond (22nd, 26:11), senior Michial Jacob (24th, 26:15), sophomore Zach Wilder (28th, 26:22) and junior Justin Gauthier (32nd, 26:33).

Sixth and seventh across the line for the Purdue men were freshman Alex Ward (49th, 26:54) and freshman Chris Sinnett (58th, 27:08). Among scoring runners, Ward scored 48th and Sinnett 56th.

Next up for the Boilermaker harriers is the Adidas Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend on Sept. 30, the day prior to the Purdue-Notre Dame football showdown.
