CHARDON, Ohio - The Purdue men's golf team overcame a slow start to finish fourth at the Cleveland State Invitational on Tuesday.

The Boilermakers totaled an 877 over the three rounds. The total ties the squad for the 12th lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history. Purdue was in 10th place after the first 18 holes. It improved to eighth place after 36 holes. On Tuesday, the Boilermakers fired a one-over 285, the second lowest round of the day.

Louisville won the event with a total of 871. TCU captured second, Kent State placed third and Eastern Kentucky tied for fourth in the 17-team field.

Purdue was led by junior Peter Richardson, who finished third overall. He was tied for 11th place after 36 holes, but posted a two-under 69 on Tuesday. His total of 213 is the 19th lowest 54-hole round in Purdue history. Richardson carded seven birdies over his final two rounds.

Sophomore Santiago Russi carded a final-round 70 and tied for 15th place overall, the lowest of his career. Russi posted three birdies and two bogeys on Tuesday.

Junior Bobby Bennett tied for 39th overall. He carded rounds of 73, 75 and 77 to total 225. Junior Pariya Junhasavasdikul recorded a final-round 72 and tied for 39th overall.

Freshman newcomer Michael Randle tied for 50th overall. He totaled 227 strokes and fired a final-round 74.

The event was held on the 7,085-yard, par-71 Sand Ridge Golf Club, site of the 2006 NCAA Central Regional Championships.

The Boilermakers will depart Thursday for the Tom Lehman Invitational on Sept. 17 and 18 in Minneapolis, Minn.
