Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two second-half goals by the Oklahoma Sooners were too much for Purdue to overcome as the Boilermakers fell 3-2 in the final exhibition game of the season at the IPFW Soccer Showcase at the Hefner Soccer Fields. The Boilermakers went 1-1 in two exhibition games at the Showcase in Fort Wayne, having defeated UW-Milwaukee on Thursday evening 3-0.

Coming out from halftime, the Sooners scored just under nine minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal into an empty net by Savannah Scott to make the score 2-1 in favor of Oklahoma.

The Sooners extended their lead to two goals in the 70th minute when Kady Kelly took a feed from Shana All at 15 yards and lofted a shot over Purdue keeper Lauren Mason for a 3-1 OU lead. The two Sooner goals in the second stanza were scored on only five shots.

The Boilermakers converted under two minutes later when Lauren Sesselmann dribbled through the Sooner defense and put a perfectly placed shot over OU keeper Jennifer Nichols' head from 25 yards out.

The first half of play ended knotted at 1-1 after 45 minutes of evenly-played soccer. Each team attempted six shots and each committed six fouls before the halftime whistle.

Purdue struck first in the 13th minute as Jayme-Lee Biamonte's blast from 25 yards found the inside of the net just above the outstretched hands of Nichols. Biamonte was fed just outside the 18-yard box on the left side of the field by Jill Sarbaugh and Kristin Hetzel, who had carried the ball to within 10 yards of the endline.

The Boilermakers continued to control the game until a lapse in the Purdue defense left Lauren Harris alone at the top of the 18-yard box. The Sooner slipped the ball to Michelle Enos, who put a shot into the upper right corner of the net for the equalizing goal.

For the game, Purdue out-shot the Sooners 18-11, while holding an 8-7 shot-on-goal advantage. However, Oklahoma controlled the ball in the Purdue end of the field to come away with five corner kicks, against the Boilermakers' zero.

The Boilermakers open the 2005 regular season on Friday, August 26, as they play host to the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. Other teams participating in the event are Cal Poly, Detroit Mercy and DePaul, with play beginning at 4 p.m. at the Varsity Soccer Complex.
