The Purdue men's golf team is in third place after the first day of the 2005 Boilermaker Invitational.

Purdue fired a first-round 291 and a 293 in the second round to total 584 strokes. Missouri leads the event after a first-day total of even-par 576. Indiana is in second place five strokes behind.

The Boilermakers were led by sophomore Pariya Junhasavasdikul. Junhasavasdikul shot 140 over the first two rounds, positioning himself in the lead going into the final round.

Senior Dustin Cone is tied for seventh overall for the Boilermakers after the first two rounds. He fired rounds of 71 and 73 leaving him four strokes back.

Sophomore Peter Richardson lies tied for 19th place after shooting 148. Freshman Santiago Russi totaled 152 and is tied for 34th. Sophomore Bobby Bennett totaled 157 leaving him in 56th place.

Four Boilermakers are also competing as individuals. Sophomore Johan Edin fired 144 over the first two rounds, good enough to leave him tied for seventh place. Senior Ryan Masuda and sophomore Brandon Lawson each totaled 153, placing them tied for 41st going into Sunday's final round. Redshirt freshman Jonathan Schultz finished Saturday tied for 60th place after shooting 159.

The event is being hosted by Purdue and held at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's Kampen Course. The course is a par 72, 7,272-yard layout.

Purdue won the 2004 Boilermaker Invitational with a total of 855.

Final round action begins on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. EST. Purdue tees off at 8:40 A.M.
