CLEMSON, S.C. - The Purdue Boilermakers had an outstanding start to their 2005 outdoor season, collecting several regional qualifying marks Friday night at the Clemson Relays. The Old Gold and Black's lone win was earned by Kyle Orender in the 10,000-meter run, clocking a time of 30:19.44.

Orender was the winner by over 26 seconds. Finishing second was Steven Chemlany of Iona in 30:45.72 and third place was claimed by Clemson Tiger Matt Pimentel with a mark of 31:01.35.

NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying marks were attained by freshman Kara Patterson and sophomore Lindsay Blaine in the javelin and by junior team captain Jocelyn Lindsay in the pole vault. Patterson's mark of 49.33 meters (161 feet, 10 inches) was a personal best, giving her second place behind Georgia's Sigrun Fjeldsted (50.19; 164-8). Blaine was third with a distance of 44.53 (143-00).

In the pole vault, Lindsay was second with her qualifying height of 3.80 (12-5.5). The native of Waynesburg, Pa., has qualified for NCAA Mideast regionals each of the last three seasons. Clemson's Sara Young matched Lindsay's height, but was given first place due to fewer misses.

Head coach Jack Warner was also pleased with the performances of his long jumpers: Leah Kincaid, Ina Jackson and Kern Woods. Kincaid and Jackson were third and fourth in the long jump, leaping distances of 5.81 (19-0.75) and 5.74 (18-10). Woods leaped a 2005 season best of 7.10 (23-3.5) to earn runner-up honors.

The Clemson Relays continues on Saturday morning, with running and field events beginning at 10 a.m. The meet is being held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on the campus of Clemson University.
