WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team dropped its fourth straight match Friday, losing 5-2 at No. 72 Penn State. The 68th-ranked Boilermakers are now 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions are 12-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Purdue had won two in a row and eight of the last nine over Penn State. At the start, the Boilermakers looked as though they would run those numbers to three straight and nine of 10. Purdue won the doubles point behind victories at No. 2 and No. 3, from the teams of senior David Robinson and Paul Rose, and junior Colin Foster and sophomore Scott Warner. The senior duo of Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell moved to No. 1 doubles from its usual position at No. 2, and lost its first match of the spring.
Purdue could not follow through in singles. The Boilermakers managed just one win, from Foster at No. 6. Four of their five remaining matches were lost in straight sets. Robinson lost in three sets to Bradley Hunter at No. 3.
The Boilermakers return to the court Saturday at Indiana. Purdue will be looking for its first win since Feb. 26 when it tangles with the Hoosiers, beginning at 2 p.m.
