WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team dominated the Lafayette Sports Center with a 7-0 victory over DePaul on Sunday. The No. 47 Boilermakers improved their record to 1-1 while the Blue Demons are now 2-4.

Purdue got off to a great start after winning the doubles point. After yesterday's loss in doubles to Tennessee, Boilermaker head coach Mat Iandolo was pleased with how his team came back and won two of the three matches today to win the point.

"I thought we played much better at No. 3 doubles today than we did yesterday, and we played pretty good at No. 1," says Iandolo. "We were able to win the point, which was important."

The Boilermakers continued their win streak by taking victories in every singles match. Freshman Stephanie Wooten started out for the Boilermakers with a victory against Marina Parashkevova at No. 2. Senior Lara Burgarello then improved her individual record to 2-0 by defeating Blue Demon Anja Mihaldinec 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Senior Hala Sufi, ranked 71st nationally, kept the Boilermakers on track with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Beatrix Csordas at No. 1.

Iandolo was impressed with how his team came out and competed from the start.

"I couldn't have been more impressed with the singles. We came out with a purpose, with a lot of energy and just took it to them right away," says Iandolo.

Next off the courts was senior Shawna Zuccarini at No. 3, with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Gergana Ganeva. Following Zuccarini was fellow senior Amy Walgenbach, who defeated Bojana Murisic 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5. Capping off the day was sophomore Alyssa Rodriguez at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Brenda Leung.

After Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Lady Vols, Iandolo liked how his team came back to win the day after.

"Coming off such a close, gut-wrenching match yesterday you don't know how your team is going to respond, and we responded really well," says Iandolo.

Zuccarini also was pleased with how the team came back from Saturday's loss.

"We came out with just as much fire as we did going into our first match," says Zuccarini. "I think we were a little less nervous and I think even losing that close one yesterday made us want this one today even more."

Looking to improve their record to 2-1, the Boilermakers will travel to Western Michigan on Feb. 8.
