LEXINGTON, Ky. - Anderson University transfer LaTonya Fryerson won her first competition as a Boilermaker Saturday, winning the shot put title at the Rod McCravy Memorial. Fryerson posted a distance of 12.93 meters (42-5 1/4), narrowly defeating Miami's Lindsey Arundel by a half inch.

Another transfer came into play during the second day of competition, former Boilermaker and current Kentucky Wildcat Dedrick Tillerson. A native of Henderson, Ky., Tillerson won the 400-meter dash in 47.47 seconds, beating Purdue football imports Ray Williams (47.86) and Zach Logan (48.06).

Although Purdue did not score any wins on the track, freshman Alfred Woods posted solid times in the 60 and 200. Woods was the runner-up in the 60 behind Eastern Kentucky senior Dallas Robinson, crossing the tape in 6.81 seconds. The rookie also was fourth in the 200 with a season best of 21.97.

The Boilermakers' top distance showings were recorded by David Rae and Amber Ferner in the 3,000-meter run. Rae was second to Florida State's Tom Lancashire, 8:09.83 to 8:11.79, while Ferner was fourth in her race with a personal record time of 9:53.66.

Carrie Fett, who was seventh in the 3K, also posted a lifetime best of 10:08.61; as did Kyle Orender, who was fifth in 8:14.52.

Purdue's women's 4x400-meter relay showed considerable improvement. The Lady Boilermakers squad finished third in 3:52.48, beating their previous season best by nearly eight seconds. The men's quartet of Jh'Rome Tuggle, Brian Kaluf, Logan and Williams came close to matching their season best, with a second-place time of 3:15.58.

Another season best was recorded by Jocelyn Lindsay in the pole vault. The junior team co-captain registered a top height of 3.80 (12-5 1/2), which was good for second place.

The Boilermakers return home to Lambert Fieldhouse next Saturday at 4 p.m. for the Gene Edmonds Cup.
