Purdue used its up-tempo running game and shot a blistering 59.4 percent from the field en route to a 103-87 win over St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Sunday in Mackey Arena.

The Boilermakers were led by senior Brandon McKnight, who scored a team-high 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting and dished out six assists and only one turnover.

"It was good to see Brandon come back and play well after he struggled the last time out," said head coach Gene Keady. "He's going to have to be a big scorer for us to be successful this season."

Despite 21 turnover and a triple-double from the Puma's Derek Fey, the Boilermakers led by 11 at the break and outscored St. Joseph's by five in the second half.

Junior Carl Landry and Xavier Price both started their first games for the Boilermakers. Landry scored 16 points and Price added 11 and a team high seven rebounds. Senior Matt Kiefer also grabbed seven boards and scored 13 points.

"I like the way Carl and Xavier responded to getting the opportunity to start," said Keady. "They real make us an athletic team."

The Boilermakers outrebounded the Pumas 44-35 and shot over 58 percent from behind the three-point line without the services of David Teague, who is out with a broken right hand.

"I liked the fact that we shot well," said Keady. "That is a good sign and something we will need against zones this season."

The Boilermakers travel to Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at 8 p.m. for the season's first regular-season game.
