WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Paced by the early performance of the freshman class, the Old Gold dominated the water of the Doris Z. Holloway Pool, defeating the Black squad by a 132-92 margin. The 40-point margin is the largest on record for the intrasquad event.

The meet opened with the 400-yard medley relay followed by the 1000-yard freestyle, two events won by freshmen of the Old Gold. The medley relay was claimed by a freshmen foursome in Jenae Gill, Jennifer Lavers, Rachael Helman and Lauren Willis in a time of 3:54.80. Karrie Stewart won the 1000-yard freestyle to give the Goldies a second win in as many races and a point lead they would not relinquish.

Of the 11 swimming events and one diving competition, the Old Gold won seven and did not have a single repeat winner, boasting 10 swimmers to win an individual or relay event.

The only swimmer to win both an individual event and be a part of a relay-winning team was Erica Chandler of the Black. Chandler claimed the 200 free with a time of 1:51.61 and was the starting leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:35.46).

Other Goldies to claim individual races were Tracy Duchac (50 free), Jennifer Merte (200 IM), Katharine Telfer (200 back), Yvonne Laaper (500 free) and Aurora Belk (200 breast).

Winning individuals for the Black were Chandler, Carlene Takaki (200 fly) and Christine Leupold (100 free). Joining Chandler on the winning 400 free relay team were Lydia DeNuccio, Brandy Keever and Rachel Sitarz.
